The import and export of tissue paper and hygiene products in China in the first quarter of 2025 In the first quarter of 2025, China’s tissue paper exports reached 354,500 tons, up 13.07% from the same period in 2024, while the export value of $560 million fell by 9.51% year-on-year, showing an increasing volume but decreasing price trend. Total imports of tissue paper were small, at only 7,757.52 tons, less than 10,000 tons.The total export volume of absorbent hygiene products was 407,500 tons, and the export value was $1.073 billion, representing year-on-year growth of 17.08% and 10.82% respectively. Imports of absorbent hygiene products remained low, with a total import volume of 5,693.63 tons and a total import value of $45.0968 million, having little impact on the domestic consumer market.The export volume of wet wipes was 215,400 tons, an increase of 12.82% compared with the same period in 2024, and the export value of wet wipes reached $313 million, a year-on-year increase of 4.32%. Total imports of wet wipes still remained low, at only 5,932.6 tons, with an import value of approximately $37.2047 million. The domestic production capacity and variety of wet wipes can already meet market demand.

In the first quarter of 2025, China added 409,000 tons of new capacity for tissue paper, remaining almost unchanged in terms of capacity increase compared with the same period last yearAccording to the research by the Secretariat of CNHPIA Secretariat, from January to March 2025, the tissue paper industry put into operation about 409,000 tons of new annual capacity annually, including 15 tissue machines, with 12 domestic and 3 imported ones. Compared with the same period last year (428,000 tons annually), the newly added capacity this year remains almost the same. The Secretariat of CNHPIA also collected data on projects announced by enterprises. From the second to the fourth quarter of 2025, the industry plans to add about 1 million tons of modernized capacity annually. In addition, the total planned capacity for projects to be launched in 2026 and beyond exceeds 9 million tons annually. Currently, the industry has sufficient capacity and faces fierce market competition. Therefore, enterprises are advised to be more cautious in future investments.

Pulp and Tissue Parent Roll Prices in Major Regional Markets of China in March 2025 In March 2025, pulp prices showed the following changes. Among wood pulp materials, Hebei bleached hardwood pulp boards (imported) cost 4,700 yuan/ton, Hebei softwood pulp boards (imported) 5,803 yuan/ton, Guangxi bleached hardwood pulp boards (imported) 4,800 yuan/ton, and Guangxi bleached eucalyptus wet pulp (air-dry basis) 4,800 yuan/ton. For non-wood pulp materials, Guangxi bleached bagasse wet pulp (air-dry basis) was 4,350 yuan/ton, Sichuan-Chongqing bleached bamboo pulp boards 5,925 yuan/ton, and their natural color bamboo pulp boards 4,700 yuan/ton. In March 2025, prices for Hebei bleached wood pulp tissue parent roll and Sichuan-Chongqing bleached bamboo pulp tissue parent roll dropped, while prices of other types of tissue parent roll rose.
